      Jun. 06, 2023

      Bull and Horse, 1957

      Est: €4,000 - €6,000

signed and dated lower right, framed. It is clear that despite his tragically short life and artistic career, Absolon was thoroughly modern in his explorations of the medium of drawing. In Stier und Pferd, he plays with the full range of possibilities of ink, alternating between generous washes and precise lines. The result is a timeless impression that seems as fresh and playful today as it was in 1957.

    • The Hunt, 1955
      Jun. 06, 2023

      The Hunt, 1955

      Est: €4,000 - €6,000

signed and dated lower right, titled lower left, framed. "Absolon studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and devoted most of his artistic career to painting scenes from everyday life and to illustrations inspired by literature. As a young man he experienced the Second World War as a soldier, however, this traumatic experience appears in only a few of his works. One such work is the ink drawing The Hunt: the drawing expresses an unrestrained terror, which can only come from the deepest wells of the psyche. ""We still do not know today who we have lost in Kurt Absalom. He worked in silence. He was working on many things that he did not yet want to make accessible to the public in exhibitions. He was never in a hurry. He did not belong to any of those cliques that cannot shout loud enough to hide the inadequacy of their art with pretentiousness. He stayed away from all the business. And now he is so unreachably distant from us."" Wieland Schmidt, 1958 WVZ 645, p 324 "
