Mit einer halbseitigen Orig.-Federzeichnung. 8vo. (Wohl Paris um 1860). -- An eine Dame, die ihn eingeladen hatte. Adam bedankt sich, muß aber leider absagen: "... une fatalité s'est placée entre votre bonne invitation et mon désir ...". Auch im Namen seiner Frau bitte er, die Absage zu entschuldigen. Um seine Situation zu beschreiben, füge er eine Federzeichnung mit einer Selbst-Karikatur bei. Das Bild zeigt den Künstler in zerrissener Kleidung und Holzpantinen, wie er sich weinend die Haare rauft und mit einem Fuß auf seiner Maler-Palette steht, vor der seine zerbrochene Pfeife liegt.
