Attribué à CHERUBINO ALBERTI (1553-1615) d’après TADDEO et FREDERICO ZUCCARI La conversion de Saint-Paul avec Dieu le Père et les anges en haut Huile sur panneau renforcé Numéroté à l’encre au pochoir au dos 164SO avec cachet de collection et inscription manuscrite. Dimensions : 108 x 82 cm Ce tableau est attribué à Cherubino Alberti d’après sa gravure réalisée en 1775 et dont un exemplaire est conservé au Metropolitan Museum à New-York. C’est une composition libre d’après la fresque de Taddeo et Frederico Zuccaro qui a été peinte entre 1557 et 1564. Elle se trouve dans la Chapelle Frangipani San Marcello al Corso à Rome. La gravure de Cherubino Alberti est réalisée dans un format inversé horizontalement par rapport à la composition originale et avec des modifications dans les perspectives, la position et les vêtements de certains personnages mais également sur le nombre d’anges dans la partie supérieure. Le tableau que nous vous présentons a été peint à cette époque très probablement par Alberti et strictement d’après sa gravure. Si elle n’atteint pas la puissance de la fresque des Zuccari, cette peinture reste tout de même de facture exceptionnelle. Condition report : Usures, petits manques dans la couche picturale et fêles verticales dont une importante dans la partie gauche. Le panneau a été renforcé à l’arrière par deux lattes latérales en haut et en bas. Pas encadré. Provenance : Acquis à la galerie Fischer à Luzern, catalogue de la vente d’été 1970. Le tableau est toujours resté depuis dans la famille de l’acquéreur. Collection privée Suisse et Monte-Carlo Gravure conservée au Metropolitan museum Documentation : Facture d’achat du 13 juin 1966. Peintre, graveur sur cuivre et ingénieur militaire italien né à Borgo Sansepolcro en Toscane, Zaccaria Mattia dit "Cherubino" Alberti est également surnommé "Le Borghegiano" de par son lieu de naissance. Issu d'une famille d'artistes, il est le second fils d'Alberto Alberti, un sculpteur. Ses frères Alessandro Alberti et Giovanni Alberti ont été également des artistes. Alberti étudie à Rome auprès de Cornelis Cort et travaille ensuite comme graveur par l'étude des œuvres d'Agostino Carracci et de Francesco Villamena. Entre 1571 et 1575, il peint et grave essentiellement d'après des œuvres de Federico et Taddeo Zuccari (Zuccaro). Au cours des dix années suivantes, ses gravures incluent des œuvres réalisées à partir des créations de Raphaël, Michel-Ange, Polidoro da Caravaggio, Andrea del Sarto, Rosso Fiorentino, Marco Pino, Pellegrino Tibaldi, et Cristofano Gherardi. Par la suite, Cherubino Alberti décore des palais et des églises avec des peintures à fresque. S'il peint aussi pour l'église de Santa Maria in Via Lata, son œuvre la plus célèbre, réalisée avec son frère Giovanni, restera la fresque qui décore encore aujourd'hui la Sala Clementina au Vatican.

Figurenstudien aus dem Jüngsten Gericht Michelangelos in der Sixtinischen Kapelle. Prachtvoller Druck mit feinem Rand um die Plattenkante. AMOR UND PSYCHE Öl auf Leinwand. Doubliert. 133 x 177 cm. In vergoldetem, gekehltem Rahmen. Psyche, die soeben das Gefäß geöffnet hat, welches die Schönheitssalbe von Plutos Gemahlin Proserpina hätte enthalten sollen, fällt durch diese in einen todesähnlichen Schlaf, der der einzige Inhalt des Behältnisses ist. Amor, der sich soeben von der Verbrennung mit heißem Öl, das links im Hintergrund angedeutet sein mag, erholt hatte, eilt schnell herbei, um Psyche zu retten und ist im Begriff, mit seinen Flügeln den Todesschlaf in das Gefäß zurückzuscheuchen. Literatur: Massimo Pirondini, Inedito dipinto de Cherubino Alberti, dort unter Abb 3 abgebildet. Pirondini verweist in seiner Publikation auf Vorbilder z.B. Il Cigoli und seine Werkstatt, so eine seitenverkehrte Darstellung im Museo di Palazzo Braschi in Rom zu sehen ist. Psyche has just opened a jar, which should have contained a beauty ointment by Pluto‘s wife Proserpina, but instead the content of the jar only sends here in a death-like sleep. Literature: Massimo Pirondini, Inedito dipinto de Cherubino Alberti, illustrated with ill. no.3. In his publication Pirondini refers to models such by Il Cigoli and his workshop, as for example an inverted depiction held at Museo di Palazzo Braschi in Rome.
