        "Across The Sierra" Bronze Bas-Relief, Spero Anargyros (1915-2004)

        Commemorative bronze bas relief "Across the Sierra" by Spero Anargyros (1915-2004) depicting the completion of the Trans Continental Railroad for the Crocker Citizens Bank, San Mateo, CA. Dimensions: 22' long. The piece depicts Charles Crocker as well as the first locomotive on the line, "the Governor Stanford" named for Leland Stanford as well as the high trestle at Secrettown east of Colfax. Anargyros was a classically trained well known San Francisco sculptor. His work appears at the Sacramento Capitol building, the San Francisco Hall of Justice, as well as a bust of Mayor George Moscone in the San Francisco City Hall. It is of interest to note, that Charles Crocker played a commanding role in the actual construction and operation of the Central Pacific Railroad.
