        Erhard Klepper (1906 Bytom - 1980 Berlin): Hans Christian Andersen: The collar, 20th century, Pen drawing Technique: Pen drawing on Transparent paper, mounted on Paper Inscription: At lower right is the artist's signature and a date of [19]42. On the passe-partout is the artist's own title of the picture in pencil. On the reverse side, various numbers have been applied in pencil and biros. Date: 20th century Description: Depiction of a character from the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen (1805 Odense - 1875 Copenhagen) from a collection of 1847. Depicted in a half-figure portrait is a young girl ironing a collar. The latter - endowed with human-like features - is depicted as a virtuous braggart who is punished at the end of the story by being turned into paper and having the short story about him written on him. The illustration comes from the estate of the artist, illustrator and costume draughtsman Erhard Klepper and is the 6th motif from a series of fairy tale illustrations on Hans Christian Andersen.
