He moved to Munich in 1876, where his winter scenes became exceedingly popular. Andersen-Lundby is still considered a highly skilled painter of snowy landscapes.

      (1841 Lundby bei Aalborg/Dänemark - 1923 München) Bauer mit Pferde-Holzfuhrwerk auf einem Weg durch einen verschneiten Wald Stimmungsvolle, motiv- und stiltypische Winterlandschaft des dänischen Malers, der seit 1864 in Charlottenburg ausstellte und 1870 seine erste Winterlandschaft zeigte. 1876/77 wurde Andersen-Lundby in München ansässig, wo er als virtuoser "Schneemaler" mit seinen atmosphärisch gestimmten Winterlandschaften erfolgreich zunächst die Ausstellungen im Kunstverein beschickte, seit 1882 auch mehrfach die Ausstellungen im Glaspalast; überdies beschickte er die Akademie-Ausstellungen in Berlin (1886, 1892) und die Großen Berliner Kunstausstellungen (1895, 1898, 1904, 1906). 1899 erhielt Andersen-Lundby vom Prinzregenten Luitpold den Titel eines königl.       Winterlandschaft mit einer kleinen Wassermühle bei München. Öl auf Leinwand. 37 x 46,7 cm. Unten links signiert und datiert "A. Andersen-Lundby 1880". Im Jahre 1861 begann Andersen-Lundby seine Ausbildung als Maler in Kopenhagen. Einige Jahre später zog er jedoch nach München, wobei er regelmäßig sowohl in seine Heimat, als auch nach Italien reiste. Als ihm die Akademie in Kopenhagen die Mitgliedschaft vorschlug, lehnte er ab. Indessen trat er später eine Professur an der Akademie in München an. Vorliegende Arbeit repräsentiert Andersen-Lundbys Vorliebe für Schneelandschaften, denen er sich ab 1877 verstärkt widmete. Dabei verbindet er in seinen Kompositionen in der Darstellung der Landschaft häufig dänische Stilelemente mit einer an der deutschen Romantik orientierten atmosphärischen Interpretation der Szenerie, die vor allem auch in der dramatisch gesetzen Lichtstimmung spürbar ist. - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.

The varnish is slightly darkened and tiny craquelé can be seen overall on the canvas. There are areas with scuffing due to the frame along the upper edges and corners of the canvas, mainly at the left edge (loss of material) and scattered marks can be seen. The painting has been skillfully repaired. Several retouched spots can be seen mainly affecting the part of the edges as well as the trees. Vertical pressure marks brought by scratcher frame can be seen on the canvas. The frame shows traces of usage and a few spots with loss of material. The dimensions are 76.5 x 108 cm and the frame measures 99 x 130.5 cm. Anders Andersen-Lundby (1840-1923) The Danish painter Anders Andersen-Lundby is considered a self-taught artist. He settled in Munich and was probably active as a teacher at the Academy of Arts. In 1911, Andersen-Lundby exhibited at the Munich Glaspalast. The artist mainly depicted winter landscapes. His works can be found in the museum of Aalborg, at the Royal Picture Gallery in Copenhagen and the Neue Pinakothek in Munich.
