          47 albumen prints, 19,1 x 25,8 cm, pasted on thick paper (2 loose), photographer's names in the image or in blindst. - Incl. photos by James Anderson, born Isaac Atkinson (1813-1877), the most extensive producer of photographs in Rome. He specialized in reproductions of works of art, but also photographed views of Italy and antiquities. This album is a perfect illustration of the work of Anderson showing work in all his domains. Others are by Giacomo Brogi (1822-1881), an Italian photographer opening a studio in Florence in 1864 under his own name "Maison Giacomo Brogi" passing his business to his son Carlo Brogi (1850-1925) who continued after his father's death under the trade mark "Edizioni Brogi Firenze". A couple of photos by Robert Rive (1817-1868), mostly active in Pompei and Rome.

Each mounted to card, titled in ink below the image on the mount. - - Born Isaac Atkinson in Blencarn, Cumberland, England, James Anderson initially pursued studying painting in Paris. In 1838, he relocated to Rome and embarked on a career in sculpture under the name James Anderson, which he kept professionally. Eleven years later, he ventured into photography, establishing a studio in Rome in 1853. He specialized in reproductions of works of art, publishing frequent catalogues of his work, but he also photographed views of Italy and antiquities. His work gained recognition among his peers, particularly for his depictions of Rome. Throughout the 1860s, Anderson exhibited extensively. Following his passing, his son Domenico assumed control of the studio, and it remained in the family's hands until the 1940s. – Some light surface scuffing, otherwise strong tonal prints in very good condition. - - Lit.: Dorothea Ritter.           James Isaac Atkinson Anderson 1813 Blencarn – 1877 Rom Albuminabzüge und Silbergelatineabzüge. Die Albuminabzüge vollflächig auf Untersatzkartons montiert. Jeweils im Abzug typografisch nummmeriert, betitelt und bezeichnet "Anderson". James Isaac Atkinson Anderson 1813 Blencarn – 1877 Rom Als Isaac Atkinson geboren. 1838 begann er in Paris Malerei zu studieren und zog anschließend nach Rom. Dort Umbenennung in James Anderson. Ab 1845 eigenes Geschäft für Photographien, beliebte Motive Stadt- und Landschaftsansichten, Lichtbilder antiker Bauten, Skulpturen, Reliefs. Teilnahme an der Weltausstellung 1862 in London. Seine Firma wurde noch mehrere Generationen nach ihm weitergeführt. Das Museum der Fratelli Alinari zu Florenz nahm 1960 40.000 Glasnegative der Firma in ihre Sammlung auf.
