Peter Nauja Angiju was born on June 20, 1932 in Puvirnituq; he lives there
with his wife Sarah Inaluak, and their four children. For several years, both
he and Sarah were committed to running the settlement's only restaurant.
Unfortunately, it burned down in the late 1970s.
Although no longer a prolific carver, Peter continues to produce
remarkably detailed sculptures of a moderate size. In their boldness of
conception they share an affinity with the works of accomplished Puvirnituq
artists such as the late Davidialuk and Joe Talirunili. Moreover, Peter's
carvings reflect his interest in the accurate depiction of anatomical details,
and embody an innocence that is indicative of a fertile artistic imagination.
