Lucia Anguissola (1538 circa – 1568 circa) (attr.) Holy Family with the Young Saint John the Baptist Oil on canvas, cm. 140 x 100 The composition of the painting derives from the Madonna of the veil by Raphael. It is close to the Madonna with sleeping child, a small oil on panel catalogued in the Zeri’s archive, (n. 31797, 0371) considered a Sofonisba Anguissola’s workshop, where the position of the Madonna with both hands raised in the act of exposing the veil of the Child is the same of our painting. Therefore, in our qualified opinion the presented work was executed by the less known Sophonisba’s sister, Lucia Anguissola (1538 - 1568 about). The paint surface shows many tweaks and recostructions
