Set of 8 vintage reproduction travel related posters. 1. Sydney Bridge Celebrations March 19th 1932 Be There! featuring a great design by Douglas Annand (1903-1976) and Arthur J. Whitmore (1910-1965), depicting a swimmer holding an Australian flag, a couple sitting beside him and fire and explosions at Sydney Bridge. The text at the bottom of the poster reads - From the original in the archives office of New South Wales. Horizontal. Good condition, fold, creasing, minor staining. Country of issue: Australia, designer: D S Annand, A Whitmore, size (cm): 45x59, year of printing: 1970s; 2. Pallanza Lago Maggiore Regate which took place 4-12 September 1897, featuring a great illustration titled Regate a Pallanza by an Italian artist Aleardo Villa (1865-1906) depicting a nude lady sitting on a sailing boat holding the ore with fireworks behind her in the dark skies. Text on the reverse reads in Italian - National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art Mythology and Iconography of the Twentieth Century in the Italian poster from 1895 to 1914, 14 November to 30 December 1979. Good condition, creasing, tears, information printed on reverse. Country of issue: Italy, designer: Aleardo Villa, size (cm): 70x50, year of printing: 1979; 3. Red Star Line poster advertising regular direct lines between Antwerpen and New York, Philadelphia and Boston, on a twin-screw steamer of 13,000 tons, featuring an image of a captain looking at a ship in the distance. The text on the reverse reads - Red Star Line Museum, Affiche, circa 1920 Letterenhuis, Antwerpen. Founded in 1871 the Red Star Line provided transatlantic shipping and transportation services until the company was taken over by Holland America Line in 1935 after being declared bankrupt. New York World's Fair Atlantic Holiday Excursion Fares on Cunard White Star The Empire State, featuring a great Art Deco illustration of a cruise liner approaching New York depicting the Trylon and Perisphere modernist structures in front of the curve of a globe with the skyscrapers on the New York skyline in the distance and rays emitting in the background. The British shipping company Cunard White Star Line was founded in 1934 by Cunard (founded 1840) and White Star Line (1845-1934) providing passenger and shipping transportation services on the transatlantic route until 1949 when Cunard bought out White Star. DOUGLAS ANNAND (1903-1976) AUSTRALIA. Circa 1938. 39 1/2x24 1/2 inches, 100 1/4x62 1/4 cm. Condition A-: minor tape-repaired tears at upper right edge; minor creases and abrasions at edges. Paper. Annand not only designed travel posters, but he was also the principle designer of Australia's exhibition at the 1939 New York World's Fair. "The use of photography in these pavilions was paralleled in the poster production of the late 1930s - especially in the posters designed by Sellheim and Annand, who worked with the pre-eminent Sydney photographers Russell Roberts and Max Dupain. Sellheim and Annand were exceptional in their use of the techniques of photographic collage as well as their insistence on an Australian look. In abandoning the soft pictorial views, they made a decisive break with English models" (Poster Art in Australia p. 21).
