      Oil on panel Germany, c. 1900 Max Arenz (b. 1868) – German painter Signed and inscribed lower right ‘Max Arenz Caputh’ Verso with remains of an old label of the ‘Münchner Jahresausstellung im Glaspalast’ Dimensions: 38.5 x 43 cm Frame: 49.5 x 54 cm Good condition  Literature: Cf. Bared, Robert: Le livre dans la peinture, Paris 2015. Condition: The painting is in good condition, consistent with age and wear. There is a fine horizontal tension crack of c. 30 cm under the faces of the boys. The paint surface shows stronger craquelure in the lower right corner. The panel measures 38.5 x 43 cm. The frame has a few marks, but appears in good overall condition. The framed overall dimensions are 49.5 x 54 cm. Max Arenz (b. 1868) Max Arenz was born in Nuremberg and studied at the Art Academy in Munich, attending the classes of Raupp (1837-1918), Otto Seitz (1846-1912) and Franz von Defregger (1835-1921). Around 1908, the painter was active in Caputh near Berlin. Later he probably established himself in Potsdam. His portraits and genre paintings followed the circle of the School of Defregger.
