Arnegger’ Dimensions: 74 x 100 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Germany Alwin Arnegger was a specialist in the depiction of atmospheric landscapes; the auction record for one of his compositions currently sets at around €6.000 The present work is a characteristic example of the artistic output by the artist Alwin Arnegger, who was fascinated by the seasonal changes in landscapes. He often depicted trees and forests that he found in the local areas of Munich or Vorarlberg. The painting offered here reveals a wide river landscape at the edge of an autumn forest. There is a rider depicted in the center of the water and accompanied by two further horses. The work captivates through the delicate brushwork and the brilliancy of colors. The painting is signed lower right ‘A. Arnegger’. The paint surface partially shows stronger craquelure and a small dent in the center of the left edge. The canvas has been torn in parts and is verso finely restored with small pieces of canvas. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of retouching to the mentioned damages, as well as to the figures and the background. The gilt frame is in good condition with only tiny losses of material. The framed work measures 122.5 x 96 cm and the size of the stretcher is 74 x 100 cm. Alwin Arnegger (1883-1916) Born in Vorarlberg (Austria), Alwin Arnegger studied philosophy in Vienna and Prague. In 1906, he moved to Munich, where he took painting lessons from Hans Bertle (1880-1943). He then studied under Julius Diez (1870-1957) at the Kunstgewerbeschule and attended the class of Carl von Marr (1858-1936) at the Academy of Arts. Alwin Arnegger was focused on portraits and landscapes which were usually based on areas around Vorarlberg and Munich. His works are very sought-after collectible items and successfully traded on the international art market. (cbo) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
