      FIGURAL SCULPTURE BY NEWELL HILLIS ARNOLD (ST. LOUIS, 1906-1988). Salt glazed ceramic sculpture and base, signed HA at foot of sculpture, slate not original. 20.5"h. base, 19"sq. Newell Hillis Arnold studied at Cranbrook Academy with the influential Carl Milles. He was a member of the St Louis Artist Guild and the Minneapolis Sculptors Group. He exhibited from the 1930s-60s, at the Worlds Fair New York, Architectural League, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Plastic Exhibition: Made in the USA (Russia, 1960), and the national Church Architectural Conference. His work is included in public collections in Kansas City, St Louis, Minneapolis, and in Wisconsin.
