          Silhouette: A Jewish child gives a handout to the poor, with the artist's signature. Size : 9X14 cm. Condition ; Very Good, few stains of time. Meir Gur Aryeh (1892-1951) was a Russian-born Israeli artist and painter, born Meir Gorodetsky in 1891 in the city of Bobruysk in White Russia, in the Russian Empire (now in the Mohilev district of Belarus) where he studied art between 1907 and 1909. In 1913 he immigrated to Eretz Israel with his family, and in Israel he continued to study art at Bezalel. In 1913 he was involved in the establishment of a workshop called "Menorah" together with Ze'ev Raban and Shmuel Persov, where they created artifacts and reliefs on subjects drawn from Bezalel Art. Between 1918-1921 he served as a teacher at Bezalel. In 1923, Raban began a new workshop called Industrial Workplace, where he worked in graphic design and other objects.

          Genesis, Gur Arieh Meir, 28 silhouettes, published by "Bnei Bezelel", 1934. Good condition. Meir Gur Aryeh, Israeli, born in the Russian Empire, 1891-1951. Meir Gur Aryeh was born Meir Gorodetsky (Horodetzky) in Bobruisk, Russia (now Belarus) to a Hasidic family. After studying art in Russia, he was invited to continue his studies at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem. After immigrating to Israel, his family changed its name to "Gur Aryeh". After completing his studies, he was appointed head of the department of drawing, ivory and amulets at the school. He was a member of the Menorah group and one of the founders of the Hebrew Artists Association in 1920, and served for a period of time as secretary. In 1923, he founded with Ze'ev Raban the "House of Work for Industrial Art". Among the well-known works created in this framework were the decorations for the YMCA building in Jerusalem. Gur Aryeh's works are characterized by a clean sketch line and on topics such as descriptions of Jewish and Israeli characters. Among the well-known works of Gur Aryeh is this series of silhouettes from the 1920's that depict Jewish pioneers.           A unique and historical item, original work by Meir Gur Aryeh. The famous silhouetted figure of the Old Yemenite riding on a donkey during his journeys, while praying the Tefillat HaDerech from an open book as he passes an ornamental tree. It was first publicized in June 1922, on the cover of the 8th volume of the Jerusalem journal “HaHayim.” Ever since, it has been a popular image in Israeli culture, and has been put on stamps and printed on wood, ceramic, and more. Gur Aryeh was born Meir Gorodsky at the end of 1891 in Bobrusk (White Russia). He studied there art from 1907-1909. In 1913 he moved to Israel with his family, and he continued his studied there at Betzalel. Between 1918-1921 he was a teacher at Betzalel. This is the original silhouette, done in black and white on canvas. It is in a new frame, it underwent professional restoration. Size: 62x62cm.
