American contemporary artist of Lebanese and Greek descent, Alice Asmar's art is often inspired by her love of nature, combined with a deep respect for Native American culture. Her work evolved into Southwestern themes of Indian Ceremonial Dance-Dramas, Indian portraits and landscapes. Her parents moved to Portland, Oregon when she was just a baby. She started drawing and painting at a very early age. Alice was considered a child prodigy; she was winning awards and recognition before the age of 10. The artwork of her early years was inspired by the splendors of nature, from the inscrutable pines and ancient sculptured rocks along the Oregon Coast to the mysterious ocean mists. She Graduated magna cum laude from Lewis and Clark College in Portland and obtained her Master's of Fine Arts Degree at The University of Washington in Seattle. Soon after graduating she accepted a job as an engineering drafter at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle. Her Assignment was clearing top secret drawings for air-to-ground missile. Alice worked for Boeing for less than a year. They offered her an engineering scholarship but she decided to go back to the art she loved doing from she was a child. In 1954, Alice received her teaching certificate from the University of Washington after which she taught art at Lewis & Clark (1955 to 1958). After studying and traveling throughout the Near East, France, Switzerland, Italy, Yugoslavia, Turkey, The Greek Islands, Greece and Lebanon, Asmar set up studios in California, New Mexico and Oregon. Today, She works in an 800 - square-foot studio that she designed with four skylights and is located behind her home in Burbank, California. A master of several media, Asmar is distinguished for her many techniques which include paintings in oil, casein and acrylic, drawing in ink, pencil and pastel, collage, tapestry, books, lithography, etching, engraving on metal on plexiglas, portraits, murals and banners. Her hand engraving of innovative designs for dinner and household wares for Nambe Mills in Santa Fe is also recognized internationally.

          15 7/8" long by 13 3/4" framed. Alice Asmar (Born 1929) is active/lives in California, Michigan. Alice Asmar is known for Indian genre and figure, mural, animal. A painter of Southwest Indian figure and genre, Alice Asmar has the name of "Kha-ye-povi" or Blooming Flower from the Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico because of her ever-increasing number of works depicting Native American people. She works in a variety of media including casein on rice paper, engraving, and painting on nambe metal. Asmar is a long-time resident of Burbank, California and grew up in Portland, Oregon. She studied at Lewis and Clark College, graduating summa cum laude in 1949, and then earned an MFA degree from the University of Washington, Seattle in 1951. She studied in Paris at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts. From 1947 to 1958, she was an assistant professor at Lewis and Clark College and then in 1961, moved to California. This beautiful artwork is hand signed by the artist, Sergey Smirnov. This is edition 3 of 10. A COA is included. Sergey Smirnov was born in 1953, in the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia. In 1984 Sergey graduated valedictorian from Moscow City Art College. In 1988, he became a member of the International Federation of Artists and the National Artists’ Union of Russia. By 1991 Smirnov became the Chief Editor for the Advertising and Image Creation Corporation of the Russian government’s International Trade Corporation. Smirnov won national and international awards for many of his logos and graphics. These successes spirited his sole devotion to painting by 1994. In 1996, Smirnov exhibited at the Orlean House in London. In 1997, he was honored as only the third living artist to have a personal exhibit in the Kremlin’s Manezh. His art is included in several noteworthy Russian collections, including former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, former Prime Minister Victor Chernomirdin, former Minister of Transportation Sergey Frank, and former Minister of Defense Evgeny Shaposhnikov. Sadly, Sergey Smirnov passed away in 2006.
