      FRANCISCO ASOREY (Cambados, Pontevedra, 1889-Santiago de Compostela, La Coruña, 1961). "O Tesouro". Patinated plaster. Presents stamp on the base and signature. Measurements: 38 x 17 x 19 cm. Francisco Asorey, recognized Spanish sculptor whose artistic interests date back to his childhood, when instead of going to school he escaped to the countryside and made carvings of saints and Christs, is formed in the School of Arts and Crafts of Sarriá (Barcelona), under the tutelage of the sculptor Parellada. Between 1906 and 1909 he worked as a drawing teacher at the Salesian school in Baracaldo, where he set up an imagery workshop together with the sculptors Julio Beobide and Juan Guraya. This workshop produced religious and secular works. He moved to Madrid in 1909 and became great friends with the painter Julio Romero de Torres, with whom he shared his studio and home for a period of time. In 1918, he won the position of anatomical sculptor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Santiago de Compostela, where he settled permanently to develop, in addition, his work as a teacher at the School of Arts and Crafts.
