              Athena Bronze mit schwarzbrauner Patina, auf Holzsockel montiert. 1979. 36 x 34 x 21 cm. Verso an der Unterkante monogrammiert "H. ST." und datiert. Mit einer Assoziation an die antike Mythologie variiert Strässer mit seiner "Athena" das Motiv der Einschließung und Umrahmung des Kopfes, vielfältig in seinem Werk umgesetzt, hier ein weiteres Mal. Eine vertikale Spiegelachse verläuft von vorne nach hinten mitten durch den Kopf. Dass hier der Helm der Pallas Athene dominiert und "der Binnenraum fast ganz von Gesichtszügen frei ist", heißt auch, "dass an die Stelle von Emotionen die formale Struktur eines Gegenstandes getreten ist." (Jürgen Weichhardt, in: Herbert Strässer. Skulpturen, Bonn 1998, S. 19). Zu den Seiten hin bleibt die Kopfform jedoch offen, so dass der Betrachter durch die für Strässers Schaffen dieser Zeit charakteristischen Ausbuchtungen hindurch in das Innere des Kopfes zu blicken meint. Die organische Komposition mit den kugeligen Formen scheint zugleich die menschlichen Sinnesorgane zu ersetzen, derer die Göttin selbstverständlich nicht bedarf. Das interessante Spannungfeld zwischen der statischen Form des Helmes und den organischen Binnenformen macht den besonderen Reiz dieser Bronze aus. Die Motivreihe der "Köpfe" stellt die umfangreichste Gruppe im Spätwerk Herbert Strässers dar. Ganz ausgezeichneter Guss mit wunderbar homogener Patina.               1966 Salvador Dali 2-sided Bas relief medallion/pendant with "Dionisius and Unicorn" opposite "Dionisius and Pallas Athena" in 18k yellow gold and .950 fine silver. Double signed with "Dali 1966" on one side, and "SD" on the other. Pendant measures 48mm in diameter, and has a gross weight of 48.2 grams. Outer edge of medal stamped with the French cornucopia hallmark of the Paris Mint followed by the number "1" for 950/1000 silver pirity, or fineness, and numbered "92". Also marked "K18 Italy" the bale. Excellent original patina with some wonderful rainbow toning to the gold bezel. Originally gifted from Salvador Dali to his publisher, Mr. Levine.
