(1832-1911): WATERCOLOUR OF SHEEP IN COUNTRY LANE the Victorian, late 19th / early 20th century English watercolour depicting a rural scene, signed lower right 'J. Aumonier', framed and glazed, the reverse of the frame with stamp 'Collection of Wilfred Tomlinson', 43cm x 37cm including frame For a similar watercolour by this artsits see Christie's, London, 12 June 2005, lot 123. James Aumonier was a painter of pastoral landscapes and animals. He became associate of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water-colours in 1876, and was one of the original members of the Institute of Oil Painters. In 1889 he was awarded a gold medal for water-colour in Paris, and a bronze medal for oil painting at Adelaide. He also received a silver medal at the Brussels exhibition in 1897. Aumonier exhibited for the first time at the Royal Academy in 1871, and his painting 'Sheep Washing' was in the Chantrey bequest collection at the Tate Gallery,
