He creates his motifs without any reflections on them. They are therefore characterized by a certain purity that almost reveals childlike tendencies. The present offset is titled 'Kauf mich' (Buy Me) and is a typical example of Avignon's artistic approach, which denies any intellectual perfection in favor of the spontaneous expression. The work is signed and dated lower right 'JIM AVIGNON 98', furthermore signed lower center 'Gio Di Sera' and numbered lower left '38/333'. It is in very good condition and matted. The sheet measures 30 x 21 cm and the framed overall dimensions are 45 x 35 cm. Jim Avignon (b. 1966) The Munich born painter, musician, illustrator and concept artist Jim Avignon started his painting career as a decorator and stage-painter for rave music events. Today, his paintings are thematically dominated by the themes of the 21st century - the fast pace of contemporary life due to technology, the failure of the individual in the accelerating world of today, and the lack of communication in a media-dominated society. He also participated in the documenta X with a special performance, where he painted and consequently destroyed a new painting every day. The artist lives and works in Berlin, where he painted and just recently painted over a large part of the East Side Gallery. Gouache on paper on cardboard Germany, 21st Century Jim Avignon (born 1966) - German pop art artist and representative of the Art Modeste On the image and verso titled 'Millionengrab' Participant of Documenta X Dimensions: 32.3 x 44.4 cm Good condition Provenance: Private Collection, Berlin This work by the German pop art artist Jim Avignon represents the heated public discussion about the world economic crisis caused by the modern banking system in 2008. The painting depicts a deep hole in front of a bank or office building. A man is standing in front of the building, dressed in wide trousers and pointed shoes, with furious facial expression and with his arms held akimbo. On the lower left the title 'Millionengrab' (black hole) is shown. The building is abandoned and the scenery appears final and hopeless. Jim Avignon, often described as the 'visual poet' of our times, illustrates complex relationships in simple images. In a direct way and closely observed, he creates his visual critiques of society, revealing the absurdities of our everyday lives. The artist is currently creating furore because this year in October, during a nocturnal operation, he painted over one of his works from 1991 on the East Side Gallery - despite this, as well as all the other remaining parts of the Berlin Wall, being under monumental protection. The work is titled on the image and verso 'Millionengrab'. The work is in good condition with minimal traces of wear. The paper, mounted on cardboard, depicts some unevenness and kinks. The cardboard shows light abrasions in the lower right corner. The dimensions are 32.3 x 44.4 cm.
