      OMAR BADSHA, (SOUTH AFRICAN, 1945-): 'BOXER, CURRIES FOUNTAIN STADIUM, DURBAN', 1985, BLACK AND WHITE GICLÉE PRINT, SIGNED IN THE MARGIN unexamined out of the frame the plate 25cm by 37,5cm This image forms part of a photographic essay on the Grey Street area of Durban and is found in Badsha's book 'Imperial Ghetto'. Badsha is a self-taught photographer and played an active role in the South African liberation struggle. He took up photography in 1976, publishing his first book three years later. It was banned, but he persisted as a documentary photographer to international acclaim. 'Africa South Art Initiative' is a registered non-profit company based at the University of Cape Town. Through research, exhibitions, workshops and public events, 'ASAI' produces and publishes resources on art and artists in Africa. Most of these resources are accessible online at no cost. 'ASAI’s' resources serve a wide range of constituents, from students in schools to professionals and specialist practitioners. The proceeds from the sale of this lot will be donated to 'ASAI'.
