William Charles (1872) Baker Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1872 - d. 1958

Baker (1872-1958) began his professional career as a student at Cornell University when some of his professors noted his talent for illustration and sought him out to provide drawings for science publications. He went on to teach Freehand Drawing at Cornell and spent the better part of his life drawing and painting landscapes in and around Ithaca, New York. According to the "Cornell University Faculty Memorial Statement" commemorating his death, Baker "Loved the Finger Lakes countryside and captured on canvas its seasonal changes and atmospheric qualities in a way that has caused countless others to see it with new appreciation. His paintings have been exhibited in Paris and many American cities, including New York, Philadelphia, and Buffalo."
