Born in London, Pati Bannister came to America at age 22 having attended art school since the age of 14. She was an illustrator for children's books and Riding magazine and worked as an animator for film maker, J. Arthur Rank. Wanting to travel, she went to Miami to work as a flight attendant where she met her future husband, Glynn Bannister. The couple moved to New Orleans in 1958, and she sold her originals and Pati Bannister prints in Jackson Square. Her talent for realism art and his business sense eventually led to the opening of two galleries in the French Quarter, and perusal of Pati Bannister's price lists at the time show her great success.

In the 1970s, the Bannister's settled on land overlooking a wildlife sanctuary on Mississippi's Gulf Coast, which led to many outstanding landscape paintings, to the delight of her enthusiastic public.
