Jahres-Ausstellung in Vienna 1897 with the work's data thereon titled «Im Studierzimmer (in the study room)» by hand as well as another label dated 1896 and inscribed «Der alte Dr. Faustus in Staufen (the old Dr. Faustus in Staufen)» by hand. Additionally a printed label dated 1897 and numbered «2057». Verso a sheet written by hand with the artist's and work's data. H 46, W 62 cm (support). Framed. Faint white shrinking cracks with resulting tiny spots of paint loss (approx. 1 to 4 mm), margins slightly rubbed from framing. Partially slight age-related craquelure and occasional retouching in the border area and on the man’s right cheek visible. Selective minor paint losses at the bottom right and right-center, otherwise overall of good impression. The image dimensions are 79 x 63 cm, the framed dimensions 97 x 82 cm. Leopold Bara (1846-1911) Bara, born in Vienna in 1846, studied from 1867 to 1873 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Karl von Blaas, Karl Wurzinger and Anselm Feuerbach, followed by study trips to Italy. He was also taking part in Count Lanckoronski’s expedition to Greece and Asia Minor. Since the mid-1870s Leopold Bara participated in the annual exhibitions of the Wiener Künstlerhaus and the international art exhibition in Munich.
