(17.15 x 20.32 cm), Printer: Amand Durand, Publisher: Amand-Durand, Gazette des Beaux-Arts, Goupil and Co, Holloway & Fils, Miethke & Wawra, Paris, Description: After the engraving by Jacopo de' Barbari, currenty in the collection at the Art Institure of Chicago. French Engraver and painter Charles Amand Durand, (1831-1905) is recognized and praised for accomplishing the difficult task of renewing original copper plate designs made by van Dyck, van Leyden, Rembrandt, Durer, Beham, and other various Old Masters from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. The task started when the main curator of the Louvre gave Amand Durand the important mission of restoring the worn down and fragile engravings made by Rembrandt.

Copia censita dai repertori opera di anonimo degli inizi del XVI secolo, incisa nello stesso verso dell'originale eseguito da Jacopo de Barbari tra il 1503 e il 1505. Bellissima impressione su sottile carta vergellata con frammento di filigrana "croce latina su numero 4". Altri esemplari sono conservati al Davison Art Center della Wesleyan University (inv. 1971.38.1), al Museum of Fine Arts di Boston (inv. P1030). (1)

A very good impression of this extremely scarce, early engraving, with strong contrasts and little to no sign of wear. We have found only 3 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years.
