        ATTRIBUTED TO CAVALIERE MICHELANGELO BARBERI (ITALIAN, 1787-1867), A MICROMOSAIC DEPICTING A SCENE FROM TORQUATO TASSO'S 'JERUSALEM DELIVERED' EARLY/MID-19TH CENTURY With red leather presentation box, gilt embossed 'TASSO CANTO XII' on exterior and 'Vita Con L'acqua A Chi Col Ferro Uccise' on interior 4cm high, 3.5cm wide, the box 6 x 5cm Provenance: The Simon Neal Collection The scene is inspired by Torquato Tasso's epic poem 'Jerusalem Delivered'. The warrior maiden Clorina joined forces with the Muslim soldiers, but the Christian knight Tancredi falls in love with her. During a night battle in which she sets the Christian siege tower on fire, she is mistakenly killed by Tancredi, but she converts to Christianity before dying. The phrase to the interior translates to Water Gives Life To Those Killed By The Sword.
