      Original vintage poster - National Migrant/Emigrant Day December 1 1957 - The Exile Family / Giornata Nazionale Dell'emigrante 1 Dicembre 1957 - Exsul Familia - Artwork by Mario Barberis (1893–1960) features three immigrant families including Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus walking through the desert on a donkey, and a modern day family walking through a field and waving from the side of a boat. In 1950, many Italians had endeavored to leave their country due to their poor standard of living and lack of opportunities following the Second World War. They immigrated to America and in particular New York City where the well educated men and women came seeking greater opportunities in their chosen fields. Good condition, folds, tears, creasing, staining, small paper loss on right edge. Country of issue: Italy, designer: Mario Barberis , size (cm): 70x50, year of printing: 1957.

      Mario Barberis (Italy, 1893-1960). This oil painting on canvas is signed and dated (1965). It depicts a man holding his hands out to catch a woman's falling tears. The work is housed in a black and gold frame. There is a tear to the canvas at the woman's temple, as well as scattered scratches. The canvas measures 13" x 10", and the frame measures 18" x 15".       oil on cardboard 32 x 53 cm signed lower right: MARIO BARBERIS / ROMA 1922 - A pencil sketch on paper for this work was offered for auction at Finarte in the auction of Works from the Bruno Mantura Collection held in Rome on 23 March 2021 (lot 87, b). The artist, who specialized in sacred art in the 1920s and 1930s, was in fact particularly dear to the critic and art scholar, who possessed a small nucleus of works by Barberis in his collection.
