§ Clive Barker (1940-), Tizer Bottle, 1987 polished aluminium, stamped with signature, dedication 'For Lesley', date and edition number 3/3 to underside 21cm high In 1959, British Pop artist Clive Barker began his career on the assembly line at Vauxhall Motors. There, he gained practical experience working with chrome and leather, as well as a fascination with mass-produced objects. Initially perceived as just a job, this experience laid the foundation that would inform and inspire Barker’s later artistic endeavours. After briefly working as assistant to artist, Richard Smith, from 1963, Barker began his early experiments in leather and chrome-plated metal. Though his projects in leather would be ultimately be short-lived, his chrome-plated works would go on to inspire a career dominated by polished cast metals. Celebrating the mundane and unexceptional, Barker’s works playfully elevate everyday found objects into works of art. Cast in highly polished metal, items of urban detritus become ironic totems of mass-consumerism. Since his inaugural exhibition held at the Robert Fraser Gallery in 1968, Barker’s works have been widely exhibited at numerous high-profile galleries across the world. Forming part of the collections of the Tate, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Berardo Collection Museum in Lisbon, Barker’s works have garnered international acclaim and recognition for their unique blend of Pop art aesthetics and commentary on mass consumerism.

HELLRAISER | CLIVE BARKER AND CAST-SIGNED FILM POSTER

              Est: $200 - $300

A U.S. one sheet film poster for the horror classic Hellraiser (1987, New World Pictures), signed by Clive Barker, Doug Bradley (who has inscribed "See you in hell"), Clare Higgins, Ashley Laurence, Andrew Robinson, Simon Bamford, Nicholas Vince (who has also drawn a picture of his character "Chattering Cenobite"), and Barbie Wilde. Based on Barker's book The Hellbound Heart (Dark Harvest, 1986), Hellraiser introduced Pinhead (Bradley) and the Cenobites (including Bamford and Vince), "demons to some, angels to others," to the silver screen. They immediately joined the pantheon of iconic horror figures. Wilde does not appear in Hellraiser, but plays Female Cenobite in Hellbound: Hellraiser II (New World Pictures, 1988).
