He studied painting in The Hague with Louis Meijer (nl) . He made scenes of sea or seaside on the French and English coasts. He lived for many years in Paris then in Ghent and Ixelles. He was active until the mid-1880s. In 1864, he participated in the Salon of Antwerp with two paintings: Naufrage du Panama. Six men of the crew saved by the Dauphin and Marine, heavy weather . In 1868, he exhibited two paintings at the Triennale of Ghent: Small port on the coasts of Zuyderzee and Naufrage on the coasts of Brittany. In 1874, he received a medal at the London exhibition. In 1876, he exhibited three navies at the prestigious American Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia : Coast of France , Shore Boats and Sunset on the English coast. In 1877, he participated in the Triennial Exhibition in Ghent. In 1881, at the General Exhibition of Fine Arts in Brussels, he presented two works: Arrival of the steamer The Folkestone at Boulogne-sur-Mer and Departure from Dover.
