          EDWARD BARNES & SONS U figure of a star S. Ribbon on blade face reads "THE REAL U star S KNIFE" below the ribbon are the words "HUNTERS COMPANION". 8" spear point blade, 12 - 3/4" overall. Handled in genuine stag with heavy brass full guard correct sheath bearing gold line decoration and gold U star S embossed in the leather. Nickel silver tip and throat. Complete with frog attachment. CONDITION: Very good. Blade has pitting, has been cleaned. This knife would appear to be American but was actually made in Sheffield England. c. 1833-1838. TN

          Exceptional Edward Barnes & Sons "Hunters Companion" Sheffield Bowie Knife with Acid Etched Patriotic Motif on Blade Measuring 12 3/4 inches overall, the 8 inch long blade features an unsharpened clip running nearly half of the length. On the left side is a 2 7/8 inch long etched panel of an eagle perched on a cannon flanked shield and flanked by American flags, as well as the following stampings: "EDWd BARNES/& SONS", "THE REAL LIFE DEFENDER/THE HUNTERS COMPANION", "GARRICK/WORKS/SHEFFIELD" and "WARRANTED/OF THE BEST/QUALITY". The grip is a single piece of curved stag horn, with a German silver oval guard and flat pommel cap. The sheath has a brown leather veneer and belt loop. The blade is bright, with a few small areas of shallow pitting and light cleaning/sharpening marks. The hilt is solidly mounted, with a few light handling marks.
