Antonio Barone: Early 20th Century Italian American Artist, "Burro's Rooster"

        Est: $750 -

Antonio Barone: Early 20th Century Italian American Artist, "Burro's Rooster". (1889-1971) Born in Italy, immigrated to America, residence in New York City and Oakland, California. Barone, based on biographical gallery information on verso of painting, enjoyed acclaim and prizes in the early 20th Century both on the East and West Coasts. He was a figurative painter, etcher and teacher. Very much an early work of his, "Burro's Rooster" is about as charming a work one could find. Oil on canvas that appears to have been professionally re-lined, based on a "window" on the protective brown paper on verso that also has taped three pieces of information on the artist. Measures 10 1/2 x 8 1/4" and perfectly complemented by an antiqued frame 14 x 16" that allows the colors of the rooster, the greens and the appealing portrait of the burro to pop. Wonderful piece. Estimated Value $750-UP.
