Antonio Barrese was born in Milan in 1945.
He completed his studies at the Accademia di Brera and made his debut at a very young age. In 1964 he founded the MID Group together with Alfonso Grassi, Gianfranco Laminarca and Alberto Marangoni.

The MID activity is very rich and extensive and includes the creation of objects and structures, interactive installations and large installations, experimental photographs and films, visual-acoustic synaesthesia performances and environmental projects, all conceived with an extraordinary openness towards technology .

In 1965 the group became part of the Nova Tendencija movement, participating in Nova Tendencija 3 in Zagreb.
Also in 1965 the first exhibition dedicated to the group took place: Stroboscopic images at the Danish Gallery in Milan.
More than four hundred personal and collective exhibitions follow, in galleries and museums in Italy and abroad until 1972, when the MID melts.
In 1972, Barrese began designing and obtained numerous awards (seven Golden Compasses, prizes and honorable notices).
He is also interested in visual narrative experimenting the meeting between different languages ??with the fusion of image and writing.

In 2000 he returned to art and led experimentation on light with the direct use of electricity to the extreme. These years are the series of works called Ligthing Objects Family and Sparkling Objects Family.

From 2007 the research of the MID continues in collaboration with Alberto Marangoni.

In the same year the VAF Foundation dedicates to the MID an important publication: MID At the origins of multimedia. From programmed art to interactive art (Silvana editoriale, Milan).

In 2009 he made the Tree of Light in Milan, a kinetic and luminous installation on an urban scale.
