Not only would the element of surprise be diminished, but one has to assume that travel time would often cool the mood. Here, this pajama-clad Romeo couldn't even wait to change out of his bedclothes to see his delighted Lady Love, a sight altogether shocking to her decorous Jack Russell. And the transport of choice? Why, a Voisin of course—the perfect luxury vehicle for the well-heeled amorous impulsive. New York-born Bridge spent most of his professional career as an illustrator, humorist, posterist, and publisher in Paris, where he passed away in 1967. (Art Deco; Automobiles; Animals; Dogs)

        Est: $4,000 - $5,000

ARTIST: JOË BRIDGE (Jean Barrez, 1886-1967) SIZE: 31 1/2 x 47 3/8 in./80 x 120.3 cm PRINTER: DESCRIPTION: This incredibly rare poster was designed by Bridge to announce a gala event organized by the American Committee of Devastated France at the Trocadéro in Paris. The initiative was founded by philanthropist Anne Morgan in the wake of World War I; she oversaw 350 volunteers to provide aid and rehabilitation to the French people. She was not only an inspiring humanitarian, but a savvy business woman as well—she enlisted celebrities, including Charlie Chaplin, to support her cause. Here, we're promised that Chaplin himself will receive all his friends at the event, and at his Paris premiere of "The Kid" that same month, he screened promotional videos for the philanthropy as well.
