In his review of Armando Barrios: Retrospectiva (Galeria de Arte Nacional, 1977-1978), critic Roberto Guevara describes the year during which this work was created as one of transition. An excerpt from the synopsis reads, "He then refers to specific works with stylized figures, chiaroscuro effects, and a noticeable use of line, all of which were part of Barrios’ painting toward the end of this period (circa 1948). Guevara sees something new starting in 1949; the figures acquire greater plasticity and simplicity. He believes Barrios has gone through years of hesitation followed by a brief foray into Abstraction. Guevara then notices that Barrios incorporates a compositional abstract base which contributes to his return to Figuration. In other words, this is his densest, most detailed, and definitive phase." Flat rate includes first-floor delivery within 50 miles of Interstate 95 (I-95) extending from PBMA in Lake Worth Beach to Massachusetts, including but not limited to Washington (D.C.), Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), New York City (New York), New Haven (Connecticut), Providence (Rhode Island), and Boston (Massachusetts). This flat rate will also be applicable to certain additional areas on shipper's normal routes, including Atlanta (Georgia), the Hamptons (New York), and the Piedmont Triad of Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem (North Carolina). If your location is within the general area mentioned and you would like to confirm the flat rate applies or receive a revised quote for your specific needs, please contact Shipper directly: East Coast Express - Nicolas Prechaniuk: 973.803.6059.       Armando Barrios (1920) Oil on canvas, signed bottom right, 48 x 35 and 50 x 37 inches w/ frame, dated on verso 9/6/96. Piece is in good condition and ready to hang. Venezuelan Artist Armando Barrios (1920-1999) was born in Caracas in 1920. He entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Caracas in 1932.Begun studies in the Escuela de Artes Plasticas y Aplicadas in Caracas, finishing them at the Paris abstract art study and the Art Institute, Roma. As a painter, made his first journey to Paris in 1948 when his style became more abstract, he joined to the Dissident group in 1950. Barrios moves through an abstract geometric stage and paints in this style. A mural for the Caracas University City. Moves back to figuration from 1954, keeping the stylistic and rhythmic composition and flat structure of his abstract era and by this way full fills his evolution to these days.As chairman of the Museo de Bellas Artes, Barrios performed an important renewal management in that institution between 1957 and 1958. During his management, created the Sociedad de amigos of the Museum and sponsored the development of Venezuelan art. And the enlargement and conditioning of the Museo de Bellas Artes.Single exhibitions; gallery de France, Paris, 1951; gallery Saint-Augustin, Paris, 1956; Museo de Bellas Artes, 1945, 1940, 1951, 1959; and this last year also, in the gallery villier galanis, Paris.
