      THOMAS BARROW The World

      Est: $1,200 - $1,800

THOMAS BARROW The World's Eye-Medusa, 30x19" Mixed Media - Polaroids, prints, caulk, plastic toy clips paint. Signed back of mount on Poloroid. Framed in clear plexiglass rounded frame. ASG# TBC/164 Thomas Barrow (b.1938) worked with numerous experimental processes that pried the photograph away as an automatic witness. In his most famous Cancellation series (1974-1978), Barrow slashed an "X" onto the negative to point out that regardless of how much empirical data is knowable, reality remains a makeshift combination of belief, ignorance, and knowledge. For Barrow photographic data is a jumping-off spot, as the immaculate print is discarded in the conviction that artistic response lies beyond the pictorial vision of the lens. Credit: Luminous Lint.
