      Apr. 25, 2015

      Barry O'MEARA (1782-1836)

      Est: €800 - €900

Physician of Napoleon I in Saint Helena since 1815, he was discharged by Sir Hudson Lowe in 1818 for taking too openly the emperor's party Autograph document, signed, 1/3 page, 4to; (London, 15.X.1830). Address, post stamp and black wax seal on the fourth page. Small restaurations not affecting the text. Very rare. Interesting document, addressed to Effingham Wilson, concerning the corrections for the fourth volume of a work about Napoleon at Saint Helena, possibly an English translation of "Memorial de Las Cases". Among others, corrections are suggested by O'Meara for the paragraph describing how a bust of the young King of Rome was surreptitiously brought to Napoleon. [History]
