Robert Thomas Barry American, (b.1936) untitled, 1991 pencil and gesso / acrylic on paper Provenance: Holly Solomon Gallery, NY. The work itself is in very good condition with no creases, staining, tears or flaws to note. The piece has been framed with archival materials, and has been stored properly even though the surface of the plexi in frame has scratching, wear, and marks. Biography from the Archives of AskArt: Robert Barry was born in the Bronx in New York on March 9, 1936. Barry grew up in the Bronx. He studied under William Baziotes and Robert Motherwell at the Hunter College, located on Manhattan's Upper East Side one of the constituent organizations of the City University of New York. Barry obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts from Hunter College. Later he joined the college's faculty. In the later 1960's, Barry abandoned painting and is known for his non-visable works. In this invisible art, Barry used materials such as: ultrasonic radiation, inert gases, radio waves and electromagnetic energy. Starting in 1969, Barry showed a series of works projecting slides that were imprinted directly on walls and comprised of composed words both drawn on sheets of paper and spoken on tape. Barry has and continues to have many solo and group exhibitions across the world.
