      Dec. 19, 2022

BARTH Carl Georg (1859 Munich - 1944 Herrsching am Ammersee) Arab sheikh

      Est: €3,000 - €4,000

BARTH Carl Georg (1859 Munich - 1944 Herrsching am Ammersee) Arab sheikh Proof in bronze with brown patina (crack on the raised arm). Inscribed on the back: C. G. Barth, München, 1896 Inscribed in German: Abtel Heisein Efendi (for Abdul Hussein Efendi) Inscribed in Arabic on the base H. 53 cm Carl Georg Barth studied sculpture at the Academy of Arts in Munich and received a scholarship for a stay at the Villa Massimo. In 1905 he received a gold medal at the International Art Exhibition in the Glass Palace in Munich. In 1911 he received the silver medal of Prince Regent Leopold and in 1913 the great gold medal in Leipzig. Until 1919, he regularly exhibited his marble and bronze works at the annual exhibition in Munich. The present sculpture appears to be a unique work. A crack on the raised arm, which seems to date from the casting, could have led the caster to renounce the edition of this model.
