        Luigi Basiletti Signed Oil On Canvas Painting Depicting The Artist Raphael In His Studio With Fornarina Signed Luigi Basiletti on the bottom right.  Size:  Art 24 1/2 x 20 in. (62.2 x 50.8 cm.) Frame: 30.4 x 26 in. (77.2 x 66 cm.) Painter and engraver, good architect, and talented archaeologist, Basiletti was born in Brescia where he primarily practiced his art and restored paintings and where he was a partner at the University of Brescia in 1810, a member of the Academy of S. Luca in 1814, the Academy of Brera in 1828 and even censor of the University of Brescia 1816-1844. After his first studies of painting at Sante Cattaneo in Brescia, he passed the Academy of Bologna, where he won a contest, and then in 1806 in Rome where he stayed for several years. In addition to a few altarpieces (Angelo custode Cathedral in Brescia, 1811), some historical or mythological pictures (Niobe in the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo in Brescia; Wounding of Bayard, University of Brescia, 1826) and decorative frescoes (lunettes Brescia in the University hall, rooms in palazzo Martinengo), his name is linked to excellent portraits of the youth of Canova on campus to that of Balucanti Cigola 1812 family at the Fenaroli accounts of Brescia, that of the poet Cesare Arici who dedicated his Roman Brescia, that, later, the Count Tosio.
