      Johan Behrens, In der Bügelstube

      Est: -

Johan Behrens, In the Ironing Room Three women flattening laundry in an interior, expressive, impasto painting with two-dimensional application of paint, Poul Uttenreitter writes about the artist's painting in a review of the autumn exhibition 1935 in "Tilskueren": "... Johan Behrens, on the other hand, explodes all frames with his unscrupulous, pyromaniacal joy of colour, an "Al Capone painting", as one of the young artists called it. Sometimes he is reminiscent of Emil Nolde, sometimes, as in a colourful portrait of a woman, he is pure Gudmund Hentze. ... they are quite beautiful pictures ... and some of the pictures ... have such a character of burning visions that one does not easily forget them, they leave traces on the retina. ...", oil on coarse burlap, signed and dated "Johan Behrens [19]27" at upper left, backed defect in the canvas, minimal need of restoration, stretcher defective, framed in gold moulding, folding dimensions approx. 91 x 112 cm.
