Greg Behymer Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1952 -

Gregory Behymer was born in Dayton, Ohio on April 7th, 1952. His interest in art began as early as the 6th grade, and continued after moving to Titusville, Florida in 1967.In 1971 he was accepted into the freshman class of Memphis Academy of Fine Arts in Tennessee. He enlisted in the Army in 1972, and his interest in painting persisted through his five years of military service. After Behymer's tour of duty, he enrolled into college. He started at Brevard Community College, then was accepted into the University of Central Florida; where he studied under Walter Gaudnek for three years.During this time his interest in the Florida landscape was formed. He painted many scenes in Brevard County: along the St. John's River, the Indian River Lagoon, as well as the marshes and lakes around Windover. His style became more tonalist, and his colors brighter as he painted the riverscapes in various types of weather, lighting conditions, and seasons. In 1994, Gregory Behymer was accepted to study with Alex Katz at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Katz stressed that an artist should strive for an individual style. Under Katz's influence, Behymer began to focus on developing that "style" Katz taught. In 2007, Behymer was selected for a group show at the A. E. Backus Museum & Gallery in Fort Pierce, Florida. Over a three week period, the museum showcased thirty-five works including watercolors and oil paintings. The exhibition encompassed works from 1992 through 2007.
