Robert Beielstein (1859-1933), Painting, Potato Harvest, 1910

      Est: €2,400 - €3,000

Oil on canvas Germany, 1910 Robert Beielstein (1859-1933) - German Painter Signed and dated lower right 'R. Beielstein 1910' Dimensions of the stretcher: 35 x 49 cm Good condition Fine painted genre motif of fieldworkers under a cloudy sky This oil painting was created by the German painter Robert Beielstein in the year 1910. Depicted is a genre scene with field workers harvesting potatoes. A group of women with their spades is about to dig the potatoes out of the ground. On the edge of the field extends a forest, directing the viewer's gaze into the image background, where another group of workers shows up along with a horse-drawn cart. The landscape is overcast by a threatening, grey cloudy sky, yet it clears a bit on the horizon and appears there in a bright blue. This painting impressively illustrates an affectionate genre scene portraying the peasants' everyday life. The painting is signed and dated lower right 'R. Beielstein 1910'. It has been carefully restored at the lower and the upper margin, as well as smaller spots in the sky and on the left edge of the image. Robert Beielstein (1859-1933) Robert Beielstein was born 1859 in Bochum. In 1883 he began to study at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts where he later used to work as a painter. Especially popular were his portraits of horses, presumably commissioned works by the owners. In addition Beielstein produced portraits and genre scenes as well.
