Emil Beischläger (1897-1977), Oil Painting 'Rosen', Mid 20th C

      Est: €1,600 - €2,000

Oil on canvas Austria, mid 20th century Emil Beischläger (1897-1977) - Austrian artist Reverse on the stretcher frame probably signed by the hand of the artist 'E. Beischläger' and inscribed 'Rosen' ('Roses') Dimensions, stretcher frame: 36.2 x 40 cm Very good condition Provenance: Austrian private collection Floral still lifes, especially roses, are a recurring subject in the work of Emil Beischläger; similar paintings fetch up to 1,700 euros at international auctions This classic modern oil painting 'Rosen' ('Roses') of the Austrian artist Emil Beischläger (1897-1977) impresses by the bright colours of the flowers. Placed against a dark background, the roses painted in pastose colours literally jump out of the painting, becoming a plastic quality. The table top and the draped cloth on the side give the composition an additional spatial component. 'Rosen' shows allusions to the New Objectivity, which was established in the 1920s, especially in German-speaking countries. However, there still is a subjective aesthetic component in the foreground. The art historian Herbert Stephan once appropriately remarked on Beischläger's works: 'A painting by Emil Beischläger gets its quality, when one lives with it. As a charismatic ornament in a cultivated room, it becomes the spiritual and aesthetic center of it. Beautiful in its picturesque instrumentation and confident in its craftsmanship, Beischläger's paintings convey his gaze, making his lived experience comprehensible.' The painting is signed on the back of the stretcher probably by the hand of the artist 'E. Beischläger' and inscribed 'Rosen'. It is in good condition, showing only minimal signs of age. The dimensions of the stretcher frame are 36.2 x 40 cm. Beischläger Emil (1897-1977) The Viennese painter Emil Beischläger mainly painted landscapes, portraits and still lifes. Emil Beischläger (1897-1977), 'Autumn Bouquet', 1957

      Est: €1,600 - €2,000

Oil on canvas Austria, 1957 Emil Beischläger (1897-1977) - Austrian artist Signed lower left 'E. Beischläger' and dated '1957' (difficult to read) Exhibition label of the Vienna Künstlerhaus of the 1950s, studio label with title of the painting and address of the artist on verso Overall dimensions, framed: 96 x 79 cm; stretcher frame: 81 x 64.5 cm Very good condition Provenance: Austrian private collection Floral still lives are a recurring subject in the work of Emil Beischläger; the present work is a particularly beautiful and large example Emil Beischläger (1897-1977) is an important Viennese painter, who became popular for his exhibitions at the Vienna Secession and the Künstlerhaus. This autumn bouquet was also on display in the Vienna Künstlerhaus in the 1950s; the corresponding exhibition label is still on the back. Between the 1930s and 1970s, colorful floral still lives were Beischläger's preferred subject. He has therefore achieved true mastery in painting them. The impasto, putty-like colours form a composition in the expressionist style. Beischläger has applied the colour layers one over another in order to create complex light and shadow effects. In this painting, the artist was more interested in the autumn colour effect of the painting, as in the mimetic representation of nature. The painting is signed lower left 'E. Beischläger' and dated '1957' (difficult to read). At the back is an exhibition label of the Vienna Künstlerhaus of the 1950s, as well as the studio label with the title 'Herbstblumenstrauß' [Autumn Bouquet]. The condition of the painting is very good, featuring only minimal signs of age and wear. The profiled wood frame is in good condition, showing small chips in places. The overall dimensions, framed, are 96 x 79 cm, the stretcher frame measures 81 x 64.5 cm.
