                Feliciano Béjar,  Mexican 1920-2007 -  Blue city, 1966;  oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right 'Feliciano Bejar 66', 65 x 80 cm  Note: the artist exhibited his 'Magiscopes' with Grosvenor Gallery in London in 1970. The artist created a number of surrealist inspired paintings with  dreamy, child-like faces floating over urban spaces in the 1960s, seemingly inspired by the visionary work of Marc Chagall. 1966 was an important year for the artist with an exhibition at Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, Mexico as well as 'The world of Feliciano Bejar' at Mappin Art Gallery, Sheffield.

El misterio de la luz", muestra presentada en el Museo de Arte Popular de la Ciudad de México, de junio a septiembre de 2007. Su formación fue autodidacta; desde que tenía 15 años Béjar comenzó a experimentar con los materiales que hallaba a su paso. Fue entonces que conoció a José Clemente Orozco, quien trabajaba en una biblioteca de Jiquilpan y de quien aprendió que el arte debía estar al servicio de la sociedad y fue por eso que durante su vida pugnó por "democratizar la belleza por medio del arte". En un principio se dedicó a recorrer mundo. En 1948 presentó su primera exposición en Ward Eggleston Galleries en Nueva York. Continuó su formación en los museos de París y recorrió Europa en bicicleta. En 1956, mientras vivía en París, un nuevo elemento asomó con insistencia en su obra: las luces a manera de pequeños soles. Su biógrafo, Martin Foley, lo bautizó como "el recolector de soles". Fue en México donde se involucró en la construcción de instrumentos 'poblados de luz". Los soles escaparon de sus lienzos y maderas para convertirse en los ojos de sus nuevas esculturas. Así nacieron las obras bautizadas por Jorge Hernández Campos como magiscopios: instrumentos de acero reciclado con lentes encapsulados. La llegada de estas creaciones al Palacio de Bellas Artes, en 1966, constituyó la apertura a toda una generación de escultores vanguardistas, y significó la ruptura de moldes tradicionales. FELICIANO BÉJAR (Michoacán, 1920 - Ciudad de México, 2007) Magiscopio Firmada y fechada 86 Escultura en acero y vidrio Agradecemos a Martín Feliciano Béjar por la verificación de autenticidad de esta obra, junio de 2017. Desde que tenía 15 años, Feliciano Béjar comenzó a experimentar con los materiales que hallaba a su paso; con el tiempo, su formación artística se fue estructurando de forma autodidacta. Durante su estancia en París un interesante elemento se presentó con insistencia en su obra: las luces a manera de pequeños soles, el reflejo de la luz a través de un cristal; a causa de ello su biógrafo, Martin Foley, lo bautizó como "el recolector de soles". Poco a poco, experimentando con materiales combinó instrumentos de acero reciclado con lentes encapsulados, naciendo así las obras bautizadas por Jorge Hernández Campos como magiscopios.
