Pjotr Belenok's figures move in cosmic spaces in which they are pursued by phantoms and fictive creatures. Belenok deals with the human being of the modern society, which is haunted by uncontrollable catastrophes. Magma, rocks and extra-terrestrial substances appear as threatening monsters overhead the people. In the present sheet, black formations swirl like giant waves above the miniature figure of a man. Belenok once said about his works: 'Detailed observations of the everyday person do not interest me; I observe the world and its problems from a neutral position in outer space.' It shows slight crease marks and brown stains. The work is mounted in a black wooden frame (showing minor wear). The sheet dimensions are 61 x 85 cm, and the frame measures 67 x 93 cm. Pjotr Ivanovich Belenok (1938-1991) Being a pioneer of the photo-realistic movement, Pjotr Belenok is ascribed a special role in the avant-garde art of the 1960s. His works of art were deeply influenced by the European photographic realism and the hyper-realism of the post-war art in the United States.
