The painter has covered the wove paper with gauze and painted over it in muted colors. In the drawing from 1976, the artist combines oil and ink with real sheet music. The art of Béral moves between figuration and abstraction. The work shows influences of Cubism, like Pablo Picasso and George Braque. Work and frame are in very good condition with traces of age and wear. Verso is a small thinned spot. The sheet is matted along the edges with a narrow strip of paper mount. The sheet measures 65 x 50 cm and the total dimensions, including the frame, are 84.4 x 69.5 cm. Alain Béral (b. 1947) At the age of 14, Alain Béral enrolled at the school of fine arts in his hometown Douai. He learned from experienced masters such as the ceramicist and sculptor Norbert Treca, the painter Robert Bouquillon, as well as the internationally renowned sculptor Emile Morlaix. His work comprises portraits, still lives, landscapes and sculptural works. Alain Béral blurs the border between surrealism and ‘intuitism’.
