      Portrait of a lady with a fan leaning against the balustrade, signed at lower right HBerkman, oil on canvas, 105 x 84 cm, framed, (Wo) Provenance: private collection Munich Hendrick Berckman was a student of Philips Wouwerman in Haarlem and of Thomas Willeboirts Bosschaert and Jacob Jordaens in Antwerp. He was the court painter of Prince Hendrick of Nassau. His early works show cavalry engagements in the manner of his teacher Wouwerman. Later he turned to the art of portraiture. Numerous of his portraits depicting the likenesses of outstanding personalities of his time are preserved in Dutch museums.
