      Oil on canvas. In the upper right corner, old numbering with red paint "XIII" Vicente Berdusán is one of the emblematic figures of Aragonese painting in the second half of the 17th century. An especially prolific painter, his works are concentrated in the territories of the middle Ebro valley, the Ribera Navarra, Tarazona, Zaragoza and Huesca, being practically all religious-themid In his mature works, he focuses on color and lighting effects, in keeping with the Madrid artists established at court, as can be seen in this beautiful image of Santa Bárbara. The Virgin and Martyr presents the typical physiognomic features of Berdusán's works and the characteristic golden-green tones that prevail in his production. With a gesture of mystical rapture, she puts a hand to her chest and, behind her, a tower appears represented, her iconographic attribute par excellence. Here she appears represented as a bust, but other similar versions are known, such as the one that appeared in commerce, of little more than three-quarters, or the one in the Funes altarpiece, full length. Due to its size and quality of execution, we think that this work was intended for private devotion.
