      Est: $12,000 - $16,000

EARLE BERGEY (American, 1901-1952) Thrilling Wonder Stories, pulp cover, Fall 1946 Oil on canvas laid on masonite 29.75 x 20.75 in. Signed center left Bergey's science fiction cover paintings are some of the most desirable ever created for the pulp magazines-and the rarest. In fact, they're almost impossible to find, with only a handful known to exist. While we have offered a number of covers in other genres by the artist, this is the first science fiction image we've uncovered, and it is an absolutely stunning example featuring an iconic Bergey damsel in distress, clad in the classic metal brassiere. This painting was in the collection of science fiction author Lin Carter until 1990, when it was acquired by the consignor. This lot is accompanied by three copies of the magazine.
