      Fenched in Peasant Cottage, oil on board, 4 3/4 x 7 in (12 x 17.7 cm), signed lower left, PROVENANCE: From the collection of Vladimir Stashis, Ukraine 1925, - passed down thru inheritence to his daughter, COLLECTOR'S BACKGROUND: Vladimir Stashis P.H.D. graduated law school in 1949 and was appointed a judge in the Ukraine in 1956. He became head of the Department of Criminal Law. He became the Vice-Rector of the Larkov Law School in 1963. Mr. Stashis was a member of the Presidium of the Academy of Law of Ukraine . For twenty (20) consecutive years , the Ukrainian government had appointed Mr. Statis as a representative of Ukraine in the International Court of Arbitration (The Hague, Netherlands). During the course of his life he was very affectionate about Ukrainian and Russian 19th Century, lover of Chekhov, Gogol, Tolstoy, Vasilkovsky, Repin, Berkos, etc.
