        Very rare Art Nouveau floor vase, KPM Berlin, designed by Carl-Hans Bernewitz (1858 Blieden - 1934 Kassel) in 1899, according to the model book ''Vase with poppies and two female figures''. Bernewitz' and dated with '1906' on the plinth Depiction of two bare, muscular sprinters before reaching the finish line Naturalistic plinth Overall dimensions, with plinth: approx. 66 x 117 x 30 cm Good condition Extremely rare and impressive large bronze of two athletes, fighting fiercely for the win. The current highest auction record for a much smaller bronze by Bernewitz is €5,000 Carl Hans Bernewitz' bronze group 'Race' from 1906 fascinates by the moving 'snapshot' of two runners who are captured just before reaching the finish line. Through her ​​bare body, their muscularity is visible in full. With an outstretched arm, one of the athletes wants to pass the other runners and tries to push him to the ground to win the race. Hunched over, the other runner is about to fall to the ground, yet still supporting himhelf with one arm. This is an incredibly impressive bronze with a pointed dynamic quality. The bronze is signed with 'Carl Hans Bernewitz' and dated with '1906' to one side of the plinth. It is in good overall condition, showing a few superficial losses, chips, oxidation and corrosion marks. The overall dimensions, including the plinth, are approximately 66 x 117 x 30 cm. Carl Hans Bernewitz (1858-1934) Carl Hans Bernewitz first trained with the sculptor August Volz in Riga. In 1880, he joined the Berlin Academy. From 1883 to 1886, he was a master student of Reinhold Begas. He supported him, for instance, in the execution of the Neptune Fountain and the Kaiser Wilhelm National Monument in front of the Eosander Portal at the Schlossplatz. He also produced bronzes and vases designed for the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin. In 1903, he received a teaching position at the Art School in Kassel and worked there as a professor from 1908.
